Oceans Lab’s work on maritime worlds helped inform a recent episode of The Daily on seafarers stranded near the Strait of Hormuz.
A recent episode of The Daily from The New York Times examines the thousands of seafarers caught in the Strait of Hormuz as war reshapes one of the world’s most important shipping corridors. The episode centers the voices of Capt. Virendra Vishwakarma, who managed to leave the strait, and Aung Thu Khant, a seafarer who remains stuck.
Oceans Lab’s mapping project is designed to make these often-invisible maritime worlds more legible: the routes, chokepoints, labor systems, and human lives that sustain global circulation. We were glad to contribute and are grateful to see Jatin Dua and Kristi Petersen-Rhead acknowledged in the episode’s special thanks.
